Kathie Gubler Isom

This is Kathie’s mother’s obituary.

Mary Louis Nazer Gubler passed away on January 21, 2014 in St. George, Utah. She was born November 13 (it was a lucky day for all of us), 1925 in Cedar City, Utah, to LeRoy H. Nazer and Della Pendleton Nazer. She moved to St. George, Utah when her father became the manager of the Sprouse Reitz store. Mary was fourteen years old.

Almost immediately she met Lester Gubler and they fell in love. They dated throughout high school and were married on March 25, 1945 after Lester was inducted into the Air Force. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2013. They were married 68 years.

Mary and Lester had three children, Dawnetta (Mrs. H Steven) Perry, Kathie (Mrs. Floyd R.) Isom, both of St. George and Jerry Gubler, who is married to Linda Scothern, they reside in North Ogden, Utah.

Mary was active in the LDS Church her entire life, serving faithfully in every organization, most notably as the 5th Ward dance director for many years and many more years as the organizer and chief cook and bottle washer for the many Ward and funeral dinners in their Ward. She also served as the “Mother of the Ward” while Lester was Bishop.

Mary was truly the “woman behind the man”. As Lester fulfilled his many Church, business and civic responsibilities, Mary kept a home and dinner waiting for him. She lovingly cared for him through his last days on earth.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Bevan Nazer of Logan, Utah.
She is survived by her three children, 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren (and counting).

When Lester passed away, many felt he wouldn’t wait long in Paradise without her. They loved to dance here on earth. We are sure they are happily dancing in Paradise now.
