St. George, Utah – Rose Leavitt McAllister, 96, passed away April 1, 2016. Rose was the second of eleven children born on July 21, 1919 in Gunlock, Utah to Samuel Vernon and Dartha Luella Barney Leavitt.
She was raised in Gunlock, Utah and always loved that little town. She loved her Leavitt family and was proud of her heritage.
Rose married Joseph Glen McAllister on October 8, 1940 in the St. George LDS Temple. To that union, which lasted nearly 70 years, came 4 children: Donna Lou, Judy Lynn, Marsha Rose, and Russell Glen.
Rose was a beautician and owned and operated her own shop for more than 20 years.
She was very active in the LDS Church serving as President of the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary organizations. She was also a teacher in Sunday School. Her favorite callings were Choir Director and Genealogy Teacher.
Rose is survived by her children: Lou Colton (Gary), Judy Hart, Marsha Leavitt (David), and Russell (Nancy); 18 grandchildren; 48½ great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Geri Sullivan (Ned). She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen, her parents; Vern and Luella; 9 brothers and sisters and her son-in-law, William Hart.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
