Ruth Fawcett Truman
Ruth Fawcett Truman, 87, passed away peacefully, February 28, 2015 at home, surrounded by her husband, Alma, and family.
Ruth was born January 17, 1928 in St. George, Utah to Genevieve Snow and Frederick Nephi Fawcett. She first met Alma in grade school. As seniors in high school, they started dating and on May 31, 1947 they eloped to Las Vegas. This year they would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Ruth grew up in St. George the youngest of six children. She was active in sports and was the Captain of the Girls High School Basketball team and voted as the Student Athletic Director. She graduated from Dixie High School in 1946.
Being life-long residents they raised their family of four children in St. George. Ruth and Alma owned several businesses including Sands Motel, Dixie Palm Motel and National Brochure Exchange.
Ruth was active in various civic organizations; i.e. President of Lady of Elk, President of St George Motel Assn, Tour Guide for Historic St. George Live, member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Ruth had many interests and hobbies; travel, visiting grandkids, golf, genealogy, seamstress, camping, horseback riding, dancing, reading. Organization and bookkeeping were some of the skills for which she was noted.
Later in life, Ruth and Alma were sealed in the St. George Temple. Together, they served a mission at the St. George Cannery, which they loved. Ruth was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Floyd Fawcett, Grace Taul, Leda Williamson, Mona Holt, and Bonnie Stringfellow. She is survived by her husband, Alma; and children, Teresa (Sid) Orton, St. George, Arlene (Sam) Mills, Vancouver, WA, Cindy (Ralf) Bluemel, Lyle, WA and Brad Truman, Las Vegas, NV. She has 11 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 1 PM at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT. Viewing will be prior to funeral service from11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Mortuary. Interment will be held at the St. George City Cemetery.
